Full names – Lionel Paul Smith – Been an agent for 30 years – prior to that in banking. Enjoy sketching, painting, drawing cartoons, in fact anything to do with art. Enjoy low impact aerobics by doing my own gardening. Involved with wildlife and acted as Chairman of the Wildlife Society West Rand Branch for a number of years, and was also a Director of People for Wildlife. Married for more than 43 years to Pamela( a well known dance teacher) and have 3 children and seven grandchildren whom I love immensely. Have been a Director of th Western Home finder newspaper for estate agents since 1985.

Been in the industry since 1973. Was manager of a branch of a National Company for 8 years. Started my own business in 1985, subsequently was co-founder of the Network Homes Group which had 6 franchises in the North West suburbs of Johannesburg. In 1995 I purchased the RE/MAX Franchises in Roodepoort which is where I still am. I was awarded the RE/MAX Broker / Owner of the year in 2000. Currently serving on the boards of the Western Homefinder, MLS West Rand and the Institute of Estate Agents (West Rand).

Born and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa, at Parktown Boy’s High School, Witwatersrand Technical College and various other educational institutions elsewhere, he holds qualifications in Property Valuation & Management, Sectional Title Administration; undergraduate degree in Theology and postgraduate qualifications in Grief and Marriage Counselling and was ordained to the ministry of the Word and Sacraments in the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa where he and Dalene served full-time for 10 years. He is qualified in property management with FNB Property Academy, NAMASA and the EAAB.
He was C.E.O. of a Property Development company; and Judicial Manager and Administrator for the High Court of the Witwatersrand on property matters. He works with his wife Dalene (most beautiful woman ever created), as a property management portfolio manager. He has been active in property management since 1998.
He also sat on the board of Directors of the National Association of Managing Agents of SA and was Chairman of the Gauteng (80% of membership in RSA) regional committee. He is a Member and Director of the Institute of Estate Agents of SA.
He is Chaplin to the Logwood Village home for the mentally handicapped in Muldersdrift and a Pastor of the Eagles Nest Ministry in Fontainebleau under Prof Johan Potgieter.
He has two sons; one is a music and english honours graduate who recently worked in London UK and is back in RSA and teaching music and playing in an accomplished Blues-Rock Jazz band; “Uju,” and number of other bands. Bernie’s older son is an honours graduate in micro-biology and genetics has blessed Bernie and Dalene with a grand-daughter and a grandson, they live in Hilton near Pietermaritzburg.
Bernie is an avid Formula One affectionado, rugby and sports fan, and he and Dalene enjoy travelling with a purpose. Prayer-walking in Yemen twice and outreaching to numerous other countries and Mozambique, supporting missionaries in the northern part of that country.
What really, “Lights his fire?” Listening to God and doing what the Lord says needs to be done!
